Description
A broken mortise and tenon joint on one arm of a 17th century giltwood "Sleeping Chayre" needed to be repaired to prevent further damage.
Treatment
Conservation of the textiles on the chair had previously been carried out, so the delicate silk and passementerie had to be gently removed and peeled back to allow access to the broken parts.

A stainless steel plate was cut to size and positioned so as to secure both broken sections.

The existing paddings and silk fabric were pulled back around the wood and neatly handsewn into place. The gold fringe was secured with the original decorative upholstery studs.
